Frequently Asked Questions

Q- Do you guys cater?

A- Yes! We have a number of options and are happy to work with you to build the perfect menu for your event.

Q- I like the catering options that I see here, but I’m looking for something a little different. What else can I order?

A- We have been building out our catering options over the last couple of months, and are always looking for fun new ideas and opportunities. Give us a call and we’ll help plan the right type of event for you!

Q- What about Shabbat?

A- Shabbat is the best. Our favorite day of the week. We’ve got killer Chulent, overnight Kugel, different types of herring and creamy chopped liver, and loads more. Talk to us for bulk prices. We also have some options for custom made gorgeous meat platters. Reach out for deets.

Q- Until when can we place an order for Shabbat?

A- Large orders for Shabbat may be placed until Wednesday at noon. Any later and we won’t be able to make Chulent or Kugel in time. If you missed the deadline, please reach out and we can see if we have any options.

Q- Can we hold a small event at the restaurant?

A- Yes, provided that regulations allow for events, we can host small (up to 40 people) events in and around our space

Q- What kind of events can you cater?

A- We love doing all types of parties. Ranging from corporate gatherings, to bar and bat mitzvas, birthdays, sheva brachot and even small weddings. That being said we are limited to the kind of events that don’t require a full service catering option (service staff and service utensils and equipment).

Q- I just want a lot of wings. How can you help me?

A- Let us know a day or two ahead and we can avoid ‘winging it’. Silly puns aside, we can happily accommodate large orders of wings but we require advance notice for orders of 200 wings or more.

Q- Do you provide equipment and waitstaff?

A- At the moment we don’t provide catering equipment (chafing dishes/hot-boxes etc) or waitstaff. Hopefully we’ll be able to expand soon! However, we are happy to brainstorm and think of the best ways to help you pull off a great event.

Q- I want to order from Shmaltz for my event but I’m worried that the sandwiches won’t travel well!

A- Soggy sandwiches are the worst. That’s why we can send all our sandwiches deconstructed for individual assembly at the event.

Q- I know your name is Shmaltz, but do you have any options for my vegetarian sister-in-law?

A- We have a wonderful pastrami-style smoked portobello sandwich and our latkes, fries and pickles are of course vegetarian. We are open to creating other options if the need arises. Talk to us!

Q- What about gluten free options? Some family members have Jewish stomachs…

A- Our kitchen is quite small and as such we cannot promise a completely gluten free environment or complete solutions for those with celiac, however we can make any of our sandwiches on gluten-free bread.

Q- I want to order for an event, but I don’t live in Jerusalem. Does Shmaltz deliver outside of Jerusalem?

A- Of course! We have a minimum order of 1000 nis for deliveries outside of Jerusalem, and orders must be placed at least a day in advance in order to guarantee delivery. We deliver to Mevaseret/Beit Meir/Telz Stone and surroundings for a fee of 100 nis, and to Modi’in/Chashmonaim/Sha’alvim and surroundings for a fee of 150 nis.
